Assumed the battery died from the cold. Earlier this year (Jan 2022)the problem got worse, the "trunk ajar" alert started flashing constantly while driving, and the door locks started to constantly click. My battery ended up dying two nights in a row in January. Take it to a shop and got a new battery.

There is really no easy way to get in through the trunk, you can take a wedge and put it in the top rear side of the door, push it in until you have just enough of a gap to get in a coat hanger and push the unlock button. locked keys in trunk bmw 525. or try contacting the dealer for any ideas. how to get into trunk w/o keys and trunk opener.

Opened the door the old fashioned way, inserted key and voila. I figured it was a battery saving measure, but didn't know for sure. Nice feature, actually. It's a 2014 SE sedan. 1) All of the door locks still work so it's not a fuse. 2) When I use the key fob and press the trunk icon twice the lights flash as they would when the trunk is supposed to open. 3) Inside the car the trunk button on the dash triggers the relay inside the car to open the trunk. You can hear it.
